Year 6 have been very busy this half term working hard at school and at home. The children at home have made excellent use of Google Classrooms and we have had daily meetings making use of ‘Chat’.
We have worked very hard with our maths work looking at the relationships between fractions, decimals and percentages.
A lot of our work has been based on our history topic of World War 2. We have investigated how & why the war started, which countries were involved and the impact it had on daily life especially through the evacuation of children and the rationing of food and clothes. We read Goodnight Mr Tom which is about an evacuated boy (William Beech) who leaves London to live in the countryside.
Our science has been based on Classification looking at different ways of grouping living things including micro-organisms. Some microbes are beneficial and some are harmful. We looked at the work of Aristotle for early classification methods and then the work of Alexander Fleming and Edward Jenner in the creation of vaccines. We even tried to create our own micro-organisms.
Geography has been all about climate change and the effect of greenhouse gases and how we can help to create a better world for the future.
