Year 5 have worked so hard throughout the Autumn term, well done to all of the class. They produced some great pieces of writing linked to our texts including Cloud Tea Monkeys and The Monsterology Handbook.
Food technology was the focus for our DT learning. We successfully completed The Year 5 Cracker Project, which ended in a Bake Off between house teams. Tasks ranged from a taste test in which, we evaluated a selection of shop bought crackers, designing a questionnaire to find out preferences and to inform our own cracker designs and finally making our own crackers. There were five finalists, one from each house team and the competition was fierce! The overall winners were Mercury!
We had an opportunity to try out Archery, using the school’s own (new) equipment. Some of us entered our scores into the local schools’ tournament and we were very successful. We won gold in the Mixed team and Boys’ team event and we came away with a Bronze in the individual girl round and a Bronze in the individual boy round. Congratulations to all!
In our science topic about Life Cycles, we looked closely at the parts of a flowering plant by cutting up a flower and trying to identify them. We also investigated seed dispersal by testing out different types of seeds (spinners) to find out the best design to move the seed from the parent plant.
In art we continued to study movement and compared the work of Giacometti and Keith Haring. We made our own foil sculptures in the style of Giacometti and were pleased with the outcomes.
