It has been a very strange but productive half term for the children in Year 5 whether learning at home or at school!
Our English work has focused heavily on the book Varjak Paw by SF Said. The children have written super character descriptions of Holly, one of the main characters. We also wrote biased and balanced arguments about which pet was best Cat or Dog – there were many different opinions!
Our Artwork this half term has been influenced by the book Varjak Paw – hence the theme of cats. The children at school learned the technique of press printing to create prints in the style of Paul Klee’s work Cat and Bird. We also explored this picture through continuous line drawing.
In geography, we have been studying the effects of coastal erosion and how beaches are formed. The children effectively drew and wrote about the sequence. Also, we have found out how erosion can affect people’s lives by watching real life video clips and then writing in role to reflect people’s hopes, worries and fears.
In maths – just one word- fractions!! By now, we are experts and we still have quite a few weeks’ worth of lessons to go!
We enjoyed ending the half term week with Feeling Good Week. The children in school made pizzas, cookies and had a creative fruit challenge. The children at home also shared their own Feeling Good activities.
