Review of Autumn 2 in Year 2

This term we have been learning about the lives of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole and have considered why they should be remembered. We have compared their experiences travelling to the Crimea to help soldiers during the war. We learnt about Florence’s life and made a timeline to represent the different parts. We were surprised that going to the Crimea was only a tiny part of her life but her ideas about hygiene changed nursing.

We have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes in our maths lessons. We have tried building shapes using straws and playdough. We have also learnt to count the properties of the shapes such as faces, edges, sides and vertices. Some of the shapes were tricky to make!

In gymnastics we have been practicing performing balances, learning to hold our shapes for the count of three. We have performed our balances on the big apparatus.

Our DT project has been all about healthy snacks. We used our knowledge from science about healthy eating to design a healthier snack for Santa. We tasted a variety of fruits and vegetables to decide what to include and then designed and made our healthy snack faces. They tasted absolutely delicious and we think Santa would enjoy them too!

We had great fun on bauble day decorating our own baubles. It was tricky to paint the bottom of the bauble without it falling off the stand. We used sponges and the end of the paintbrush to add snowmen to our baubles.
