Panshanger Primary School is a member of the British Beekeepers Association.
Keeping bees can have many benefits, including:
Pollination
Bees pollinate plants, fruits, vegetables, and flowers, which can increase the number and quality of the produce. Pollination also protects crops from pests and is essential for the survival of many ecosystems.
Honey
Beekeeping allows you to harvest honey, a natural sweetener with many health benefits. Honey can help prevent cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, and it can also reduce coughs, heal wounds, and fight bacteria.
Mental health
Working with bees can be calming and spending time outside beekeeping can help you get vitamin D. The sound of bees working can also be mentally restorative and reduce stress.
Education
Beekeeping can be a way to learn about the fascinating world of bees, including their behavior and social structures.
Connection with nature
Bees can help people reconnect with nature and their local ecology. Pollinating local flowers can also create attractive habitats for other animals.
Keith Handley, a school governor and parent, is our registered bee keeper. If anyone has any questions or concerns then please feel free to email him and he will reply as soon as he can.
