Governors

The Governing Body is split into 2 sub committees each with a different focus.

The Effectiveness Committee focuses primarily on aspects of the school  relating to: teaching and learning and curriculum design through monitoring the yearly School Improvement Plan.

The Resources Committee focuses primarily on:  staff, buildings and finance.

The committees review policy documents, undertake school visits and complete a variety of monitoring  activities.

We have three key roles:

  • To be strategic and this includes planning the school’s future direction
  • To act as a critical friend, supporting the head teacher and working with all staff to decide how the school can encourage pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development
  • To be accountable, in particular for the performance of the school to parents and the wider community

Term of office is 4 years.

As school governors, we make important collective decisions and as a governing body we are responsible to parents and the community.

Our aim is to:

  • Ensure the school achieves high educational standards

  • Contribute to the School Improvement Plan and set priorities.

  • Set the school’s policies.

  • Appoint senior staff including the head teacher. Be involved in the recruitment of all other staff in consultation with the head teacher.

  • Control of the school budget to ensure money is spent wisely.

  • Ensure a broad and balanced curriculum which meets National Curriculum standards

We meet as a full governing body once every term.

In addition we visit the school during lessons to monitor and support the development and quality of teaching. Representatives from the governing body can be seen at most school assemblies, events and parents evenings.
